In February 2016 the Department for Education (DfE) commisioned the charity Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) to complete a research and make recommendations on how the emotial and metal health needs of children and young people in care would be better met. SCIE set up and Experet Working Group (EWG) to lead the research project. A report with the key findings from the research and the recommendations was presented at the House of Lords in middle November 2017. A foundamental principle of the project was to voice children and young people in care, who are experts by experience, and give them the opportunity to say what changes they want to see in the care system in order to better meet their needs.
